Re: Techeiles in private?!
Rafi writes -- Depends. R' Schachter makes the most sense in that, if you think you might have the right Techeiles (even if it's just might) and choose not to wear it, you are being Over Bal Tigra. Furthermore it's a Machlokes Rishonim whether Tzitzis is one mitzva or five. With white, we are all d...

Re: Color of murex trunculus dye
There is no proof that the murex was used for blue. There is proof it was used for purple. The reason you assume it was used for blue is because you assume it's the chilazon. If it wasn't used for blue there's no reason the gemara would need to warn about it (besides that nobody would use something ...

Re: Color of murex trunculus dye
There are no positive "proofs" it was used by jews. The main proof is via process of elimination- it can't be any other known snail, so it must be this. With all due respect that comment is a red herring. It was used by both Jews and non-Jews. Why else did Shlomo Hamelech consult Hira...
Re: Nignaz
הלכות ציצית פ"ב ה"ה that's how he understands שבלילתא that Rabbi Perr quotes I see it now (https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/936342/jewish/Tzitzit-Chapter-Two.htm). ומיא דשבלילתא could translate as וְרִיר שֶׁל שַׁבְּלוּל. Why Rabbi Perr didn't spell that translation out i...
Re: Nignaz
I think it was an honest mistake of his, the fact that he doesn't want Ptil to succeed is not bias, just like you are not biased for wanting Ptil to succeed. Nothing to do with wanting or not wanting Ptil to succeed. Our objective is to try to do Mitzvos as best as we possibly can. As an aside, I...

Re: Nignaz
I never said everything in his letter is correct, but I think it's unfair to call someone biased just because he has a different opinion, right or wrong.
Re: Nignaz
I think it's unfair to call Rabbi Perr's opinion "biased", he is entitled to his opinion as much as anyone. It does make a difference, R' Avrohom ben Horambam never said it has a shell, he just compared it to opening on the seam. As far as black blood, it's obvious that the Rambam meant it...
