I thought that people would be interested in seeing this relatively new source from שלמה משנתו on שבת (עה, א) (from Rav Azriel Aryeh Leib Rakovsky, 19th century, newly printed from manuscript):
הצד חלזון. אין ספק בזה שעיקר צידה הוא בברואי המים שמכוסים מן העין וצריך רשתות וחחים ללוכדן, וכל צידות ברואי היבשה טפלים הם להם.
Maybe someone can comment whether this has been noted yet.
